The Venture Challenge is an excellent opportunity for potential spin-offs to receive coaching and advice on various business aspects. It helps them turn a promising idea into a sound business case. The best business venture pitch receives an attractive prize of € 25,000.
Venture Challenge Fall 2010
Do you have an idea with commercial potential? Are you willing to let society benefit from your research efforts? The programme of the Venture Challenge includes the following elements:
- Pre-screening: based on submitted proposals.
- Workshops – part I: Starters will put themselves in the shoes of their future users/customers, in order to gain an in-depth understanding of the value of their proposals. They will work out possible evolution pathways of their ventures.
- Coaching: During the whole Venture Challenge programme, each team is offered weekly coaching sessions: in between the workshops and the Challenge session.
- Workshops – part II: Starters will learn more about the assumptions that are the key to the success of their ventures. They will generate a ‘100-Day Plan’ and practice their venture pitch.
- Challenge session: Starters will pitch their venture plan to a jury. The best venture pitch receives €25,000.

Start-up company ClearDetections is the winner of the Venture Challenge Spring 2010, as was announced during the LS@work kick-off event in Utrecht on June 17, 2010. ClearDetections, a spin-off from Wageningen University and BLGG AgroXpertus (The Netherlands) has developed a new method to efficiently detect nematodes – minute worms in the soil that cause approximately $80 billion damage annually to agricultural crops worldwide.
