Valorisation at the NGI Genomics Centres

Although excellent research, as performed in the Genomics Centres, is a prerequisite for valorisation, the best results are obtained when the valorisation strategy is aligned with the research strategy, the Centre’s organisation and sector-specific dynamics.

NGI has therefore made valorisation an essential and compulsory part of all Genomics Centres and awarded them a valorisation budget. The Centres use their valorisation budgets for creating awareness amongst researchers, scouting for research findings and protecting them with patents where necessary, and proof-of-concept funding. The Centres' Valorisation Manager coordinates the valorisation activities that are executed by the TTOs involved in the Centres.

To reward the Centres' valorisation performance, NGI has introduced an annual €1 million Valorisation Award. The NGI Valorisation Advisory Board, a panel of international valorisation experts, provides strategic advice to NGI and the NGI Genomics Centres, and acts as the jury for the annual Valorisation Award.
