Valorisation

The Netherlands holds a top position in Life Sciences and the Dutch government has invested significantly to support this important contributor to the economy. The mission of the Netherlands Genomics Initiative (NGI) is to get the most out of genomics and it has set ambitious goals for its second phase. Excellent science should generate new economic activity and address society’s needs and expectations.

To NGI, the key to translating findings from basic research into everyday applications is to spot the potential of scientific results at a very early stage and provide all the necessary means and expertise to transform the scientific result into a commercially viable product or service.

NGI Valorisation Strategy: three focus areas

NGI has defined three core focus areas in its valorisation strategy:

Valorisation at the NGI Genomics Centres
Strengthening the Technology Transfer Offices (TTOs)
Life Sciences Start-Up Support

NGI has developed a range of activities that span early stage scouting activities to financial support for start-up companies. Examples of such programmes are:

Valorisation Award
Venture Challenge
Life Sciences Pre-Seed Grant

NGI Valorisation Advisory Board

To ensure effective coordination and best practices, NGI’s
international Valorisation Advisory Board supervises the entire
process, provides NGI and its Centres with strategic advice, and
serves as the jury for the Valorisation Award.
