The results of the Netherlands Toxicogenomics Centre show that science is becoming increasingly effective in providing alternatives to animal testing.
For the implementation of these results, however, a key role is played by national and European approval authorities, which determine whether new medicines or chemical compounds may be allowed onto the market. The current validation process of alternative methods is highly time-consuming, complicated and very expensive.
NTC believes that there is plenty of room for improvement in the development and implementation of alternatives to animal testing and therefore appeals to the political establishment to break with existing conventions.
