Stress-responses of human skin cells reflect human longevity

Netherlands Consortium for Healthy Ageing (NCHA) reveals a direct in vitro link between cellular stress responses of human skin fibroblast cells and the rate of ageing.

So far, evidence for this has only come from model organisms. Proliferating cells can transform into cancer cells as a result of genomic damage. Mechanisms determining cellular repair and cell turnover may directly influence the rate of ageing.
