The potato genome exposed!

Thursday, October 06, 2011

Researchers from the Centre for BioSystems Genomics and the Netherlands Bioinformatics Centre have played a key role in a recent Nature publication on the genome of potato.

This work, initiated and coordinated by the Netherlands, involved more than 130 scientists from 13 different countries, and represents a major milestone in potato research.

The published genome will not only provide the seminal reference source for future potato genetics research, both fundamental and applied, but will also become the blueprint for all subsequent potato sequencing initiatives.
