Arn van den Maagdenberg, Boukje de Vries, Rune Frants, Cornelia van Duijn, Yurii Aulchenko and Michel Ferrari of the Centre for Medical Systems Biology (CMSB) together with an international team of scientists have discovered the first genetic risk factor for the most common form of migraine.
By studying the DNA of over 50.000 people, the researchers gained more insight in the mechanisms behind migraine attacks. This knowledge could contribute to the development of new preventive medicines.
The results of the research can be found at the website of
Nature Genetics
