Two new members have joined NGI Supervisory Board: former minister Prof.Dr C.P. Veerman and former Ombudsman M. Oosting. The appointment of I.W. Opstelten, mayor of the city of Rotterdam, as chairman of the Supervisory Board has been extended by a second period of five years.
Prof.Dr C.P. (Cees) Veerman (1949) has since 2007 been professor by special appointment in sustainable rural development in European perspective at Wageningen University and Tilburg University. Before that, from 1990 to 1997, he held an endowed chair in agribusiness at Erasmus University Rotterdam. He is also CEO of Bracamonte B.V. Mr Veerman was the Netherlands' Minister of Agriculture, Nature Management and Food Quality from July 2002 until February 2007. Key points of his policy included improving the knowledge infrastructure with regard to the agrifood industry, natural and rural areas, reducing the administrative burden and strengthening sustainable agriculture and horticulture. Mr Veerman is also a member of the supervisory board of Rabobank Nederland, chairman of Vereniging Natuurmonumenten (Society for the Preservation of Nature Reserves in the Netherlands) and chairman of the Delta Committee.
M. (Marten) Oosting (1943) has since 2000 been a member of the Netherlands Council of State. He held the position of National Ombudsman from 1987 to 1999. In recent years, Mr Oosting has participated in various committees concerning topics with a major social impact. For example, he led the investigation into the fireworks disaster in Enschede and was chairman of the Commissie Geschillen Aandelenlease. His current positions include chairman of Dutch Cancer Society (until October 2008), of the Netherlands Institute of Human Rights (until October 2008) and the Center for International Legal Cooperation (CILC).
The appointment of Mr Oosting and of Mr Veerman follow the stepping down of Mr E. Veltkamp, former senior vice president research & development, Unilever and Mr K. Wiedhaup, former member board of management Organon/AkzoNobel.
