The annual 25,000 dollar worth William K. Warren, Jr. Prize is awarded internationally to an individual or group who has made a significant contribution to the field of celiac disease research through basic, translational, or clinical research.
Professor Frits Koning, CEO from the Celiac Disease Consortium, has received this award on 3 June at the University of California, San Diego, and gave the 2011 Warren Prize Lecture, "Celiac Disease: How Complicated Can It Get?"
Koning was awarded this prestigious prize for his studies on gluten peptides, which led to methods to detoxify gluten proteins, thus making them suitable for consumption by celiac disease patients.
