Patrick Smit (WUR) received a VENI grant for a study on plant defence mechanisms.

Two of his colleagues at the Centre for BioSystems Genomics were granted a VIDI subsidy, which amounts 800,000 euro: Kerstin Kaufmann (WUR) was successful with a research proposal dealing with the biochemical interactions of transcription factors with DNA and other proteins, while Harrold van den Burg (WUR) received the grant from ALW with a project entitled 'Plant disease resistance: wrestling between SUMO paralogs'.

CBSG researcher Sjef Smeekens from Utrecht University was also very successful with a proposal for the TOP-GO grant for excellent multidisciplinary research. His research goal is to unravel the molecular networks that link nutrients and plant growth.
