On 26 March 2009, the 50,000th student took part in the Mobile DNA lab 'Prenatal research in plants' at Gymnasium Haganum in the Hague.
During the practical lesson, pupil Dilan Aydin received a trophy on behalf of her school from Minister Ronald Plasterk, Dutch Minister of Education, Culture and Science.
This school year, the DNA labs on the Road visited 786 classrooms with just under 16,500 pupils participating in the project.
The Centre for Society and Genomics (CSG) coordinates and finances the DNA labs. The educational quality of the labs will be further improved in 2009 and 2010, with further steps taken to improve embedding in school programmes. A sixth, forensic DNA lab will be developed together with the Forensic Genomics Consortium Netherlands. Each of the five participating universities is associated to a Genomics Centre:
