A cooperation between Mark van Passel of the Ecogenomics Consortium and Erik Roos from the Bioinformatics Research Support team of the Netherlands Bioinformatics Centre led to the development of a new tool for automated analysis of large databases of genomic sequences and their genomic islands.
The tool was used to identify the origin of a genomics island in bacterial genomes, which resulted in a publication in BMC Genomics.
