The Dutch ministry of Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport has reserved five million euro for the subject ‘More knowledge with less animals’.
The money is reserved for a two-year period starting 2011. The Netherlands Organisation for Health Research and Development has been asked to draft a programme for this theme. Activities that used to belong to the ‘Assuring Safety without Animal Testing (ASAT)’ programme will be incorporated in this new initiative. The programme will focus on replacement of animal testing. The expert meeting organised by the Nationaal Centrum Alternatieven voor Dierproeven on 17 November will serve as an inspirational source.
