Queen Wilhelmina Research Prize for immune therapy
against cancer

KWF Kankerbestrijding (Dutch Cancer Foundation) has this year awarded the prestigious Queen Wilhelmina Research Prize of € 2 million to Kees Melief and Sjoerd van der Burg, researchers attached to the Centre for Medical Systems Biology (CMSB).

This money will be spent on strengthening the effects of immunotherapy. Immune therapy teaches the natural immune system to recognize cancer cells, especially as regards cervical cancer and other gynaecological tumours. Up to now, the success of this therapy is limited to early stages of cancer.
