Plants are essential to human life. Either directly or indirectly, plants are the source of all the world’s food. They also provide materials, pharmaceuticals and a renewable source of energy. Plants assume a central role in European industry and agriculture. Studying their genomes is essential to drive innovation, stimulate commercial exploitation and keep Europe’s economy healthy.
By bringing together national research programmes, ERA-PG under co-ordination of the Netherlands Genomics Initiative, aims to boost Europe to world-wide leadership in plant genomics. ERA-PG is a joint effort involving 16 countries: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Israel, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the UK. The network’s coordination activities are funded by the European Commission.
