Understanding the basic principles of disease and health is essential to battle the first and promote the latter. Gaining insight into the intricate network of molecules, processes and pathways that determine the status of our health is an enormous task, however.
Genomics technologies allow for a detailed study of all these mechanisms and interaction and can thus contribute to deepening and broadening our understanding of what it means to be healthy, what really is wrong when disease develops and what needs to be done to fight it. Facing such a broad theme, NGI has selected three health-related topics that are particularly pressed for solutions: healthy ageing, complex diseases and infectious diseases.
